FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Des Moines, Iowa January 1, 2009 - The Lift announces Phil Thomson to exhibit months of January and February. Opening Reception Friday, 9th 6-9pm.
Bio: Phil Thomson was born in Des Moines, Iowa and raised in West Des Moines, Iowa. He is a graduate of Vally High School in 1999 and voted most artistic by his high school class.. He obtained an Applied Arts Degree In Professional Photography from Hawkeye CC in 2001 where he received The commercial Portfolio of The Year Award and maintains one of two year end prints on display at the school for that year. Since then he has produced an abstract view of Downtown Des Moines during the revitalization of the east village in a showing called "Otherwise Over Looked," He has also been featured in four Iowa State Fair competitions receiving one first place, two second place, one third place and four Honorable mentions. In this last year he was 1 of 14 applicants selected out of 3600 to show all four photographs in the exhibition.
Artist statement: This is a radical departure from the photography I have produced thus far. The concept is that of which: to portray musicians, places, and only a handful of people in the immediate surroundings of the Downtown area of Des Moines in a painted and refracted version. I wish to show these subjects in a less than normal circumstance and to give the viewer something deeper than what they may have originally anticipated.

"I have to say that these are so much better in person and are only going to sold as original and no others will be produced unless previously stated on the ID card except for promotional use".
