"Games We Play" by Van Holmgren

Opening Party is July 8 from 5pm - 10pm

This show plays with the situations and risks we take with our lives. Some of the paintings explore the non-harmful mischievous childhood games and other pieces show activities that adults play with. It is representative of the small things we do to amuse ourselves, occupy our time, and rolling the dice of our destiny. How will we become better ourselves if we do not look at the things we do and experience every day with both criticism and humor? Every subject, lettering, numbers, other symbols and the title are all deliberate and meant for you to think about each piece.

Van Holmgren has been working as an artist for the past five years in Des Moines and has branched out to the rest of the country and overseas recently. He works with found wood, reclaimed house paint, acrylic, spray paint, and hand drawn stencils. He has become a full time artist in the last two months and plans to "make" until his arms fall off.
